Therein lies the issue - 3 issues actually. First is the time horizon - 1 year is nothing - you need to be invested for 10-20 years or more. Read about compounding - that is one great tool of investing. For example if I have x the interest and principle will keep compounding. So 10% on 10,000 is 100, but same 10% on 500,000 is 5000. So the more time you have on hand the better. Time is your number one ally. Number 2 - trading of stocks is never a good idea, instead look into mutual funds or index funds. These are made up of a number of stocks and spread the risk. Number 3 - trading - this means you have to pay commissions every time you buy or sell.
