There is an app called hopper which alerts you when prices go down for your trip or when is the best time to buy. When prices were surging around 1600 for Air India from NJ to BOM during June this year, I used hopper which alerted me to price dropped to around 900 for few hours, I was able to book the ticket and it took me to Indian Eagle who had that price, rest all sites ware showing around 1600.. I traveled without any issues. Momondo is also good in case you want to compare alternate days if your travel dates are flexible.
